Swimming in the Gulf of Porto

The Gulf of Porto, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Corsica. From the golden pebbles of Bussaglia to the fine sand of Arone, by way of the supervised Porto beach and the wild coves of Ficaghjola, each one has its own character. From Hotel Le Vaïta, all of them are just a few minutes away by car. Here is our selection, with our tips on access, parking and dining.

From the hotel : Porto-Ota, 6 minor 20 min on foot
★ The finest one for photographs Large pebbles Supervised beach Wheelchair access The closest

The closest to the hotel, at the foot of the Genoese tower: magnificent for photographs, picnics and sunsets. Supervised, with an access mat to the water usable in a wheelchair — but the waves are powerful and the bottom drops away fast, so swimming is better elsewhere.

★ Best comfort for the time it takes Fine pebbles Kayak and paddleboard Mask and snorkel Climbing Naturist area

The best comfort for the time it takes: a thirteen-minute drive, easy parking, and fine pebbles that hurt neither your feet nor your car. Three beaches in one — the beach bars in the middle, sand and fish to the right, the climbing rocks at the far end, the naturist area to the left.

To be alone On foot only Mask and snorkel No facilities

Reachable only on foot, by a trail rebuilt in 2024 that starts from Caspiu beach. If no boat comes by, you will have it to yourselves — mask and snorkel strongly recommended. No facilities at all: bring water.

From the hotel : Osani, 30 min1 h 30 on foot
On foot or by sea A stop on the trail No facilities

The only beach no road reaches: it comes halfway along the postman's trail, exactly when you want a swim. Do not be surprised to find cows there from the morning. No facilities — you carry back what you carried in.

Ficaghjola cove below Piana, crystal-clear water and red cliffs, Corsica
From the hotel : Piana, 37 min
Wild cove Crystal-clear water Difficult road Not for campervans Access on foot

A fishermen's cove tucked below the village of Piana, with rare water clarity, framed by the red cliffs of the Calanques. You have to earn it: thirty-seven minutes on a narrow road we would not take a campervan down, very limited parking, then a walk down.

Chuni beach towards Cargèse, a quiet beach where you can find Saint Lucia's eyes
From the hotel : towards Cargèse, 40 min
Nature Saint Lucia's eyes Quiet

A more discreet spot on the Cargèse road, prized for its quiet. This is where you hunt for "eyes of Saint Lucia", the little pearly shells worn as lucky charms in Corsica — a perfect treasure hunt to keep children busy.

Arone beach, fine sand and turquoise water — 8th most beautiful beach in Corsica
From the hotel : Piana, 45 min
★ 8th most beautiful beach in Corsica Fine sand Cliff jumping

A huge stretch of fine sand and turquoise water, often ranked among the finest beaches in Corsica. Cliff jumping on the left for the adventurous, three restaurants — and the road from Piana, high above the sea, is worth the trip on its own.

We have known these beaches for years, and above all we know their timetables. We'll tell you which one to avoid when the wind gets up, which stays in the shade late in the afternoon, where to park without circling for half an hour, and which are worth it with children or with a mask and snorkel. Just ask at reception — with pleasure.
