Buses in Porto

Porto is a village hemmed in between the mountains and the sea, on the west coast of Corsica. A car remains the most flexible way to explore the region, but it is perfectly possible to stay here and get around by public transport — provided you know the timetables and the limits of the local network.

Here is what you need to know about the buses around Porto, so you can plan your stay at Hôtel Le Vaïta with peace of mind.

From Porto: every departure

Two networks serve the area. The C2 line operated by the Collectivité de Corse goes down to Ajaccio; U Vagabondu, the transport service of the Spelunca-Liamone community of communes, has served the interior and the north coast since 27 July 2026. The Porto stop is at the pharmacy crossroads, a few minutes' walk from the hotel.

From Ota

Ota is the terminus of the C2 line: the coach sets off there twenty minutes before it calls at Porto. It is also a stop on the Deux Sevi.

U Vagabondu, the local network

Launched on 27 July 2026 by the Spelunca-Liamone community of communes, it has two lines that call at Porto:

• The Deux Sevi — from Evisa and the Col de Vergio down to Bocca a Croce, by way of Marignana, the Spelunca, Ota, Porto and the villages of the north coast.
• The Littorale — towards Piana, Cargèse and Sagone.

You can track the vehicles live on Zenbus: handy when you are waiting at the roadside without knowing whether the coach has already gone by.

The Deux Sevi, stop by stop

One and the same vehicle makes the round trip. The “down” columns run from Evisa towards Bocca a Croce, the “up” columns go the other way.

Which days it runs

This is the point that catches most people out, because the Deux Sevi does not run the same service every day:

• Monday, Wednesday, Friday — both round trips.
• Tuesday — the morning one only.
• Thursday — the afternoon one only. On that day, Porto has no Littorale at all.
• Saturday — the Littorale runs, the Deux Sevi does not.
• Sunday — nothing on the U Vagabondu side. All that is left is the C2 to Ajaccio, and only from 1 May to 30 September.

Taking the bus to go walking

This is what these timetables really change, and it is not obvious at first glance. The Deux Sevi drops you at the start of several trails.

Bocca a Croce, for Girolata. Drop-off at 09:59, pick-up at 14:41: four hours forty minutes there. The postman's trail is a loop of about four hours — it fits, with forty minutes to spare. If it is your first time, or in real heat, do the shorter there-and-back to Girolata instead. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only: those are the only days when both round trips run, and you need both.

The Spelunca bridge. Ota at 10:53, arriving 10:58 — five minutes. The return comes through at 13:42: enough time to see the gorges without giving them the whole day.

Evisa and the Col de Vergio. Leaving Porto at 10:43, Evisa at 11:33, back from Evisa at 13:07. An hour and a half there: enough to have lunch in the village, too short for the Aïtone waterfalls. For those, you are better off with a car, or a night up there.

The main line: Ota ↔ Ajaccio (C2 line)

The most important connection out of Porto is the C2 line on the Via Strada network (formerly M2), which links Ota (Porto) to Ajaccio with stops at Piana, Cargèse, Sagone, Tiuccia and Embt Calcatoghju. It is the only regular public transport link between Porto and the rest of Corsica.

From 1 May to 30 September, the line runs every day, public holidays included, with two services in each direction:

The rest of the year (1 October to 30 April), the C2 line runs Monday to Friday, with a reduced frequency — check with the operator for the exact times in that period.

Fares (C2 line)

From Porto, reckon on 2 zones to Cargèse, or 4 zones to Ajaccio (fares given as a guide, based on the official zone map).

New: Porto ↔ Calvi bus in summer

This one is genuinely new: the company SASAIB now runs a direct Porto ↔ Calvi line in the summer season.

A welcome option for reaching the Balagne and the north of the island by public transport, without going through Ajaccio.

What to know before taking the bus

• Buy your ticket in advance : buying through the app or beforehand is recommended. If you buy your ticket on the bus itself, a higher fare applies.
• Times can change from year to year and from season to season. It is essential to check the current timetable before your stay.
• The Porto stop is down by the port. It is a few minutes' walk from Hôtel Le Vaïta.

Other ways of getting around Porto

Bike and mountain bike hire

For short distances — in particular to go from Porto up to the village of Ota (5 km), or to reach some of the walking trails — bike hire is available in Porto. The roads are hilly, but an electric bike puts the ride within everyone's reach.

Taxis and private hire

Local taxis serve Porto and the surrounding area. They are the answer when the bus does not go where you are going, or not at the time you need: an airport transfer, a departure before the first coach, a late return in the evening. Taxi Ouest Corse, based in Ota, handles transfers from Ajaccio and journeys locally all year round. Do book ahead in high season: there are only a few taxis available.

Carpooling

For destinations that are less well served, carpooling platforms sometimes turn up local drivers. It is worth looking into, particularly for journeys to the north of the island.

Our advice

If you are staying at Hôtel Le Vaïta without a car, we suggest you combine the boat trips from the port of Porto (which need no land transport at all) with the bus to reach Piana or Ajaccio. For exploring deeper into the hinterland and the less accessible sites, hiring a car for the day remains the most flexible solution.
