Freshwater swimming in the Aïtone forest, near Évisa — 25 min from Porto
When the heat bears down on the coast in high summer, the Corsicans know the place to go: the natural pools of Aïtone. Tucked away in the forest above Évisa, these clear-water rock pools carved into the granite offer a refreshing swim in the shade of laricio pines and chestnut trees. The water is cool but the current stays gentle: it's the perfect place for a family dip when it's too hot on the beaches.
About 25 minutes from Hotel Le Vaïta, it's the ideal half-day nature outing, far from the bustle of the seafront.
By stopping directly at the access point, you reach the pools after a few minutes' walk. Ideal if you mainly want to swim without a long hike.

Open in Google Maps ↗The walking version: a shaded trail that crosses the chestnut grove, dotted with information panels about the vegetation. Don't be surprised to come across free-roaming pigs along the way — they're part of the scenery! Longer, but far more pleasant in hot weather. This trail is one of our walks around Porto, with its duration and starting point.
🅿️ Free parking at the start of the trail.
The village of Évisa, perched at 850 m and renowned for its chestnuts (AOC!), is home to some of the best tables in the area. After the swim, it's the chance for a proper Corsican mountain meal.
Set in the former Café de la Poste, Tramula offers a full menu — starter, main, dessert and digestif — entirely built around the chestnut. A real must-have to taste the culinary identity of the region. Remember to book in season.
