Buses around Porto in Corsica: timetables and practical tips

Refillable soap jar 3D-printed by Hôtel Le Vaïta, in Porto

Porto is a village hemmed in between the mountains and the sea, on the west coast of Corsica. While a car remains the most flexible way to explore the area, it is entirely possible to stay here and get around by public transport — provided you know the timetables and the constraints of the local network. Here is what you need to know about buses around Porto, so you can plan your stay at Hôtel Le Vaïta with peace of mind.

The main line: Ota ↔ Ajaccio (line C2)

The most important connection from Porto is line C2 of the Via Strada network (formerly M2), linking Ota (Porto) to Ajaccio and serving Piana, Cargèse, Sagone, Tiuccia and Embt Calcatoghju. It is the only regular public transport connection between Porto and the rest of Corsica.

From 1 May to 30 September, the line runs every day, public holidays included, with two services in each direction:

Out of season (1 September to 30 June), line C2 runs Monday to Saturday, with reduced frequency compared with summer — check with the operator for exact timetables in that period.

New: Porto ↔ Calvi bus in summer

This is genuinely new: the company SASAIB now runs a direct Porto ↔ Calvi line during the summer season.

  • Porto → Calvi: departs 8:00 from the Porto bus stop, arrives in Calvi opposite the Super U.
  • Calvi → Porto: departs 12:30 from Calvi, returning to Porto.
  • Fare: €25
  • Period: 11 July to 16 August
  • Except Wednesdays, Sundays and public holidays.

A welcome option for reaching the Balagne and the north of the island by public transport, without going through Ajaccio.

What to know before taking the bus

  • Buy your ticket in advance: buying through the app or beforehand is recommended. If you buy on board, a surcharge applies.
  • Timetables can vary from year to year and season to season. It is essential to check current timetables before your stay.
  • The Porto stop is down by the harbour. From Hôtel Le Vaïta it is a few minutes on foot.

Other ways to get around Porto

Bike and mountain bike hire

For short distances — in particular going from Porto up to the village of Ota (5 km), or reaching some of the hiking trails — bike hire is available in Porto. The roads are hilly, but an electric bike makes it accessible to everyone.

Taxis and private hire

Local taxis serve Porto and its surroundings. It is the most practical solution for specific journeys (airport transfer, an early start, coming back from an evening out). Do book ahead in high season, as there are few taxis available.

Car sharing

For destinations with less service, car-sharing platforms can sometimes put you in touch with local drivers. Worth exploring, particularly for journeys towards the north of the island.

Our advice

If you are staying at Hôtel Le Vaïta without a car, we suggest combining boat trips from Porto harbour (which need no land transport at all) with the bus to reach Piana or Ajaccio. For deeper exploration of the hinterland and the less accessible sites, hiring a car for the day remains the most flexible option.

Our team is available at reception to help you organise your journeys and give you the most up-to-date timetables.
